Two new cases of dengue fever were reported in the city on Monday.
The infection has been contracted by two men — a 31-year-old resident of Punjab Mata Nagar and a 28-year-old Jammu and Kashmir native — who are under treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
This has raised concern in the health department that is working to prevent breeding of aedes aegypti mosquito, which causes dengue, in the city.
With these cases, the number of dengue cases has reached seven.
District epidemiologist Dr Ramesh said, “Earlier, four cases were reported from Jagraon, Tajpur Road, Basti Jodhewal and Punjab Mata Nagar. As soon as the cases are reported, a team is sent to the affected area for checking larvae and water stagnation. We had started the drive to check larvae in March with almost every area being covered.”
According to health authorities, as many as 34 teams — six of municipal corporation and 28 of health department — have been assigned the duty to check the breeding of mosquitoes across the city.”
“These two-member teams work five days a week. On Monday, areas, including Tibba Road, Janakpuri, Lajpat Nagar, Sartaj Nagar, Subash Nagar, New Subhash Nagar and Netaji Nagar Salem Tabri, were checked,” he added.
