CUTTACK: Even as the Central team praised the State Government for its dengue control measures, the number of dengue cases is on an upward trend in Cuttack district. So far, the district has recorded 569 positive cases including 201 patients in the last three days.
On Thursday, the Central team, led by additional director of National VectorBorne Disease Cont rol Pro g ramme (NVBDCP) Dr Gagan Singh Sonal, had expressed satisfaction over the measures taken by the State Government to contain the spread of dengue.
Though the growth rate of the disease has come down considerably in Keonjhar district where 1,026 persons have tested dengue positive till Friday, the number of patients is increasing in Cuttack, Ganjam and Bhadrak districts. While on Thursday, Keonjhar had recorded 45 positive cases, the number of fresh dengue cases was 113 in Cuttack. On Friday, the millennium city reported 39 new cases, highest in the State followed by Keonjhar (23).
While so far, 159 patients, including 48 fresh cases, have been admitted in SCBMCH at Cuttack, 11 are now in the ICU. The State has reported 1,944 dengue positive cases while three persons have died of t h e ve c t o r b o r n e disease. Meanwhile, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has woken up to install hybrid toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission in the industrial areas following criticism over poor sanitation and depleting civic amenities. The decision, which wa s t aken at a meeting with Director of Swachh Bharat M i s s i o n Pa r a - meswaran B who visited dengue affected areas of CMC to take stock of the sanitation situation on Friday, aims at improving the sanitation by minimising open defecation.
The divisional head of IDCO has been requested to give suitable land for setting up 10 seated toilet at the cost of `24 lakh, said CMC Commissioner Gyana Ranjan Das.
