CUTTACK: Another Dengue patient died at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here on Tuesday taking the death toll to three this season. Earlier, two - one each from Khurda and Balangir had died of the vector-borne disease.
The deceased was identified as Chaturbhuja Parida (46) of Atoda village under Salepur block. The village is located near Jagatpur industrial area. He was undergoing treatment in the ICU of SCBMCH where he succumbed.
The number of dengue positive cases also rose considerably with detection of 97 fresh cases. So far, 1,574 persons have tested dengue positive from 24 districts, Keonjhar being the worst hit with 924 cases followed by Cuttack with 368 cases.
Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) authorities have constituted 12 additional squads to intensify the process of checking and inspection of premises of industries, office complexes and commercial establishments in different Wards for identification and destruction of mosquito breeding sources.
On Tuesday, the CMC issued show cause notices to eight more industries including CESU in Jagatpur area for not cleaning their premises which have virtually turned into breeding ground of Aedes aegypti mosquito that spread dengue. CMC Commissioner Gyana Ranjan Das said while show cause notices have been served on 22 industries in Jagatpur so far, three industries have been closed temporarily.
