The number of dengue cases reported in the Capital this year has seen a substantial rise compared to last year, says the data released by Delhi’s municipal corporations on Monday.
As of July 16, a total of 50 patients have been confirmed this year. Last year, there had been 29 cases of dengue recorded as of July 16. Delhi had seen a record-high number of cases last year, with 15,867 recorded cases of the disease.
Municipal officials said the heavy rainfall this monsoon was one of the reasons behind the increase in cases.
“The excessive rain is leading to water logging. Despite best efforts, water remains collected for some time. Even 5 ml of water is enough for mosquitoes to breed,” said an official of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Another official, however, explained that the number of cases may look worrying, but the majority of the patients were from outside Delhi.
