Incidence of dengue in the worst affected Barbil area of Keonjhar district has started showing a declining trend. Barbil alone has accounted for over 800 of the 1100 dengue cases in the state.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a review meeting and called for concerted efforts to combat dengue, malaria and diarrhoea.
He directred the health, industry and urban development departments to coordinate and work on joint action plans. Industrial and urban areas are vulnerable to dengue outbreak. These need to be identified and effective cleanliness drives undertaken, he said.
He was informed by concerned departments that since 24 June awareness drives had been undertaken, free blood test and treatment facilities extended to patients and since 15 July a campaiing against malaria, dengue and diarrhoea is underway.
At least 504 patients have been treated and discharged from different hospitals. The CM was informed that the diarrhoea outbreak in one village of Rayagada district has been brought under control. There were 1574 cases of dengue positive cases reported in the state.
Reports from Keonjhar district said that of the 3075 blood samples tested, 830 were dengue positive. In Cuttack district 132 patients have been identified. The SCB Medical College Hopistal , Cuttack has increased its bed strength in the dengue ward to accommodate 200 patients.
The Jagatpur industrial area of the district has reported the maximum number of cases, said official sources. As per official records three persons have died of dengue till date. Unofficial figures put the death toll at six.
