The dengue situation in Odisha is deteriorating day-by-day and has started posing serious challenges to treating doctors here at the SCB Medical College and Hospital. The number of dengue patients in the Cuttack hospital crossed 170 on Friday forcing the authorities to increase its bed strength of exclusive dengue ward to 220.
But the doctors are worried about the conditions of 11 patients, who are undergoing dengue treatment in ICU in critical state. The Hospital has already witnessed deaths of three critical dengue patients in the past fortnight. At the same time 150 other dengue patients have already left the Hospital after treatment this year.
Seeing the increase of dengue patients’ inflow, treating doctors apprehend that the viral disease this year may cross all-time record in the State. Records available in the Hospital show that dengue is gripping the neighbouring districts of Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Angul and Dhenkanal.
Out of the 170 patients currently undergoing treatment in SCB, Cuttack district accounts for the maximum number of patients with 120 of them.
