KEONJHAR: THE dengue fever continues to take more people in its grip nearly a month after the disease broke out in Barbil on June 26. Another person reportedly died of the disease in Barbil hospital on Thursday night taking the toll in Keonjhar district to four in the last 26 days. The victim has been identified as Binapani Behera (37) of Ward No. 3 of Barbil Municipality. Her husband Bijay said she was suffering from fever for the last few days. The disease has spread to rural areas of the district with one Fatima Khan (28) of Buladwar Sahi under Ward No. 14 of Keonjhargarh Municipality admitted in District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for dengue on Friday. Two others, Manohar Mahanta of Kaunrikala village under Sadar block and Laxman Naik of Gumura village, too were admitted in DHH.
A paramedical staff, Damoar Rout, deployed at Barbil for collecting blood slide too tested positive for dengue and was shifted to SCB Medical, Cuttack on Thursday. Rout, a resident of Gourototasahi in Keonjhar, was deputed here for the blood slide test for the last 10 days. Additional District Medical Officer (Public Health) Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Bal said 920 dengue positive patients have been identified in the district till Friday evening and of these, 883 are in Barbil hospital and another 37 at District Headquarters Hospital.
Others who fell prey to the disease are Sukramani Sadilya of Ward No. 4 of Barbil Municipality who died on July 22, a day after Ratani Karua died at Barbil hospital. Malli Gop of Barbil municipal area died on July 19. The disease broke out at Sriram Nagar of Ward No. 4 of Barbil municipal and spread to Joda township, Joda rural, Keonjhar block and Keonjhar town.
